About Me

Using my background experience of social work and managing in health and social care settings, I now thoroughly enjoy the training and personal development environment as a creative way of empowering people into remaining committed to their work and enthused about bringing about change with the people they live or work amongst.

Whether my role is to educate, train or develop, I will encourage thinking, feeling and then action. My aim is that participants leave a day’s training feeling renewed, re-energised and committed to action.

I have taught qualifying courses in social work and currently teach on a post qualifying course. My social work experience was within children and families social work including working alongside health colleagues in delivering multi-disciplinary services to families affected by mental ill health or disorder. I have been an expert witness in child care proceedings. I really enjoy working creatively with people and am accustomed to working with and managing diversity. I have considerable expertise as a front line manager in supervising /mentoring staff and providing consultation to social workers and other professional disciplines. These experiences translate well into a training environment as I thoroughly enjoy working with adult learners improving standards in social care practice and their confidence in themselves as practitioners.

"Like my earlier Practice Educators, Penny guided and supported me, but she was alone in inspiring me.

Penny enabled me to critically analyse my practice and develop my skills of reflection, all of which I find invaluable now I am a qualified Social Worker in a Local Authority complex care team. As well as supporting me in my professional development, Penny also contributed significantly to my academic achievement; extending and developing my written analytical skills, which undoubtedly assisted me in gaining a first class degree."
